(1) Drink a minimum of 2 litres of fresh water daily to help flush-out excess uric acid.

(2) Eat a handful of cherries with each meal. Cherries have anti-inflammatory properties.

(3) Eat plenty fresh fruits that are high in vitamin C to help reduce uric acid levels.

(4) Take 5 servings of fresh vegetables each day to help flush-out uric acid. But not asparagus, mushrooms or cauliflower. They make it worse.

(5) Avoid foods high in purines, such as red meats, offal, broth, poultry (especially turkey), shellfish, legumes, yeast, etc. Lower purines = lower uric acid.

(6) Apply hot / cold compresses to the affected area. Hot for 3 minutes; cold for 30 seconds; continue for 20 minutes and finish always on hot.
